Teen Mood and Thought Disorders Treatment
Teen Mood and Thought Disorder treatment at Paradigm Malibu includes our teen treatment of all mood and thought disorders, including but not limited to Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, different types of Psychosis, Schizophrenia, and Schizoaffective Disorder. As their names imply, Mood Disorders most prominently affect teens’ moods, and Thought Disorders predominantly affect teens’ thoughts. Within our treatment plans, we include a combination of the best possible approaches to therapy, including medication, behavioral therapy, talk therapy, family sessions, and parent training. All of our treatment plans are individually created and individually based, so that each teen gets the most precise, successful treatment possible.
What Mood and Thought Disorders Look Like
There are a number of different Mood Disorders, which all have an array of specific symptoms. However, there tend to be some symptoms that overreach all Mood Disorders, including but not limited to:
- Sudden change in demeanor
- Acting out
- Social withdrawal
- Academic trouble or challenges
- Difficulty concentrating
- Severe, perpetual sadness
- Insistent crying
- Change in energy, sleep, and/or appetite
Thought Disorders include disorders and diseases that disrupt a teen’s ability to think clearly and/or their understanding of reality vs. unreality. Symptoms vary, according to each individual disorder, but there are a number of experiences that can exist amidst all Thought Disorders. These symptoms include but are not limited to:
- Hearing voices that aren’t real
- Seeing things or people that aren’t real
- Delusional thinking that reveals a break with reality
- Deterioration in hygienic habits
- Social withdrawal
- Academic trouble/challenges
- Difficulty communicating clearly
Residential Teen Treatment
At Paradigm Malibu, we offer residential treatment services to teens struggling with a wide range of teen Mood and Thought Disorders, including those that exist as Co-Occurring Disorders. Our first step with any teen is to conduct a thorough psychiatric evaluation that will help us in designing a holistic, individualized treatment plan, according to your teen’s specific needs.
Because our treatment plans are individually designed and based, treatment will look different for each teen. We implement a combination of what we believe to be the best traditional and experimental approaches to therapy, carried out by therapists and team members that are experts in their fields, and experienced in adolescent treatment. For Mood and Thought Disorders, we often combine Talk Therapy methods with medication, while providing careful supervision and support of a teen’s progress, fluctuations, and changes, throughout treatment.
