A-Z Teen Health Glossary

Toryn Smith McKelvey graduated summa cum laude from Touro University with a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a Minor in Spanish from Western Kentucky University. Toryn is experienced in both residential and outpatient substance abuse and mental health treatment for anxiety, depression, PTSD and personality disorders and she has a clinical preference for working with families impacted by abuse, adolescent trauma, and current and generational substance abuse. Her therapeutic approach combines elements of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) with art therapy to help teens recognize their strengths and to reconnect with their dreams, goals, and family, while moving away from the holds of past traumas and harmful patterns.
